Services Held
Mattie Vriezelaar, 80, of Nelson Manor Nursing Home, died Thursday afternoon, April 9, 1992, at the Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Richard Fleming, associate pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Pella.
Memorial Contributions to Immanuel Baptist Church, the Jasper County Senior Citizens or the Progress Industries Foundation will be accepted.
Survivors are three nephews, Larry Vriezelaar of Kellogg, Robert Vriezelaar of Des Moines and Terry Vriezelaar of Newton; a niece, Linda Vriezelaar of Des Moines; and special friends, Ron and Marcy Helms of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, James, Richard and Raymond Vriezelaar.
Miss Vriezelaar, a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, had worked as a clerk at J.C. Penney’s and the Fabric Shop, had been a homemaker aide and had been employed at H-Vee West.
The daughter of Gradus James and Artie Hulleman Vriezelaar, she was born July 26, 1911, in Otley and attended Richland School and Pella Community High School.
Miss Vriezelaar moved to Newton in 1947 from a farm near Otley.
