Life Story of Jean Vos
A Monroe area woman, Mrs. Kenneth (Jean Darlene) Vos, 40, of Rt. 1, Prairie City, was killed in a truck-automobile accident early Saturday afternoon in Marion County.
Injured in the accident was Mrs. Vos’ daughter, Mrs. Lynn (Debra Sue) Elrod, 21, of Rt. 1, Monroe, who was taken to the Pella Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries.
Mrs. Vos, driver of the automobile, was dead of multiple injuries at the scene of the accident, four miles west of Pella on G-28, the Parimeter road around Lake Red Rock.
According to Iowa Highway Trooper Thomas Gabriel, who investigated the accident, a truck driven by Alan Roy Tucker, 26, of Rt. 1, Pella, was traveling west, blew a tire and swerved across the center line into the path of the eastbound Vos automobile.
Tucker suffered head injuries in the accident, was treated in Pella and released.
A Marion County deputy sheriff assisted the Iowa Highway Patrol in investigating the accident, which occurred at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Otley Reformed Church.
The Rev. Alan J. Schrender, pastor of the church conducted services. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Survivors are her husband; three sons, Dale of Pella and Darwin and Douglas, both at home; a daughter, Mrs. Elrod of Monroe; two grandchildren; and her mother, Mrs. Case Van Kooten of Sully.
Also surviving are four brothers, Henry R. Van Kooten of Pella and Delmar Van Kooten, Daniel Van Kooten and Edward Van Kooten, all of Sully; and four sisters, Mrs. Albertus (Ida) Harsselaar of Lynnville, Mrs. Charles (Cornelia) Jansen of Cutlerville, Mich., Mrs. Jonnie E. (Delia) DeJong and Mrs. Carroll (Norma) Harthoorn, both of Sully.
The daughter of Cornelius and Jennie Dieleman Van Kooten, she was born Mar. 4, 1938, at Sully and attended the Sully Christian Grade School.
She was married Jan. 10, 1957 at Sully.
