Services Held
Services for Tunis Verschuure were held Saturday, May 3, 1997, at the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Ken Schepel and Rev. Isaac Meuzelaar officiated the services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
He passed away April 30, 1997, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 80.
Memorials to Hospice of Pella and Creation Station Christian Preschool will be accepted.
Tunis Verschuure, the son of Peter David Verschuure and Jane Kleinendorst Verschuure, was born February 3, 1917, in Tracy, Iowa. On February 23, 1939, Tunis was united in marriage with Cornelia Tibboel at the home of the bride’s parents in Monroe. To this union, five children were born. Tunis farmed for twenty-three years before working at Vermeer Manufacturing for nineteen years. He enjoyed farming, tending his lawn and garden, and working with his horses. He was a member of Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella. He visited the shut-ins and helped anyone in need.
Tunis is survived by his wife, Cornelia Verschuure of Pella; three sons and their wives, David and Evelyn Verschuure of Leighton, Robert and Faye Verschuure of Pella, and Jerry and Corrine Verschuure of Pella; two daughters and their husbands, Eunice and Robert Keuning of Monroe and Ruth and Jerry Ver Meer of Pella; fifteen grandchildren, Doug Verschuure, Lori May, Melody Ebert, Gary Verschuure, Brian Keuning, Mike Keuning, Steve Ver Meer, Greg Ver Meer, Sharon Ver Meer, Jeff Verschuure, Susan Schippers, Kristin Verschuure, Curt Verschuure, Kevin Verschuure, and Stacie Verschuure,; fourteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Jeanette, Mrs. Simon Van Dusseldorp of Pella; Catherine, Mrs. Frank Vander Wiel of Pella, and Cornelia, Mrs. Harry Tibboel of Pella; and a sister-in-law, Dena Verschuure Van Mersbergen of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Andrew Verschuure, and three brothers and one sister who died in infancy.
