Edward Shannon, age 81 of Des Moines, formerly of Monroe, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Heritage Manor of Newton. Funeral services for Mr. Shannon were held on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe. Burial followed at Silent City Cemetery of Monroe. Memorials may be given to the Edward Shannon Memorial Fund and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of James Theron and Eva (Baker) Shannon, Edward was born on February 17, 1927 at Monroe. Edward was a graduate of Monroe High School, Class of 1945 and Simpson College. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Edward worked for the Lortex Company of Des Moines. He was a member of the Knights of Pythians in Des Moines.
Survivors are his sister Mary Effie Wearmouth of Newton, his niece, Christine Stone and her husband Martin of Ankeny, and his nephew, Craig A. Wearmouth and his wife Debbra of Newton. Those also left to honor his memory are his great nieces and nephews: Joseph Wearmouth, Rachel Wearmouth, Shaun Stone, Justine Stone, and Marc Stone.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Dwane A. Wearmouth.
