Services Held
Services for Max Schuttinga of Otley were held August 6, 1993 at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City. Interment was at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Pastor Barry Whitlow, pastor of the Federated Fellowship in Pella officiated services. Mr. Schuttinga passed away August 4, 1993, unexpectedly in his sleep at their rural residence inn Otley.
Memorials will be accepted for the Federated Fellowship in Pella.
Max Schuttinga was the fourth son born to Marsailus and Jennie Steenhoek Schuttinga. Max was born on September 4, 1927 at Prairie City. He attended the Prairie City Grade School and graduated from Prairie City High School in 1946. On August 26, 1949, he was united in marriage with Gladys Louise Den Besten at Pella, Iowa and to this union two children were born: Patricia Louise and Randy Wayne. Max entered the bulk oil business in Prairie City following his marriage and continued to operate a Conoco Service Station there for 21 years. In 1975, Max and Gladys moved to Pella. Gladys passed away March 26, 1976 at the age of 44 years. Then on July 29, 1977, Max was united in marriage with Mary Jane (Monster) Van Wyk at Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, Max continued to work at Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, where he was employed for 19 years. Following his retirement from there and at the present time, he was a part-time employee at The Village Cleaners in Pella. Mary and Max had lived in their residence in Otley for the past four years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; his two children and their spouses: Patty and David E. Van Wyk of Wilton, Iowa; Randy and Vicki A. Schuttinga of Pella; three stepchildren and their spouses: David Eugene and Patty Van Wyk of Wilton, Iowa; Darlene Ruth and Vernon L. Uitermarkt of Monroe, Iowa; Danny Wayne and Kelly G. Van Wyk of Monroe; six grandchildren: Michael David, Matthew Wayne, Monte Lee and Marc Anthony Van Wyk; Jennifer Lynn and Bradley Wayne Schuttinga; and five step-grandchildren: Jason Grant, Jonathan Ryan and Jordan Tyler Uitermarkt; Nathaniel J. (cut off)
