Passes Away
Flora T. Schaber, 89, of Governors Way dies Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine.
She was born in Monroe, Iowa, on September 1, 1911, a daughter of Mark I. and Ruth Porter Shaw. She was educated in the local schools in Monroe and graduated from Northern Iowa University with a degree in Education.
Mrs. Schaber served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed at Barber’s Point, Hawaii. While stationed in Hawaii she met and married Francis B. Schaber in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 1, 1946.
Following their military service they made their home in Tolono, Illinois, where they raised their family and Mrs. Schaber taught 4th Grade for number of years. She retired from teaching in 1973.
Mrs. Schaber returned to live in her hometown of Monroe, Iowa, after Mr. Schaber’s death in 1974. She has made her home in Topsham, Maine for the past four years.
Mrs. Schaber was a longtime member of the Monroe Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is pre-deceased by a daughter, Mollie F. Johnson of Decatur, Illinois, who died in 1991; and a brother, Dean Shaw of Utica, NY who died in 1999.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynne and her husband, Wayne Sanford of Bowdoinham, Maine; a sister, Joyce Tilden of Grimes, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Brett Johnson of Charleston, SC, Todd Johnson of Knoxville, TN, Mark Johnson of Orlando, FL, Suzanne Johnson of Decatur, Illinois, and Robin Sanford and Chris Sanford, both of Bowdoinham, Maine.
At Mrs. Schaber’s request there will be no services.
