Life Story of Wilma Sargent
Funeral services were held August 7, at Overton Funeral Home, with Rev. Hearold McElwee and Rev. J. W. Garbison officiating for Wilma Sargent. Interment was in the Indianola cemetery.
Wilma May Sargent, was born December 17, 1893, in Warren County, Iowa and departed this life August 4, 1978, at the Embassy Manor Care Center in Newton after a lingering illness at the age of 84 years.
Wilma was the daughter of William E. and Alice Johnson Clary who lived south of Indianola for many years. She attended rural school and Milo High School. She attended Simpson College and Drake University and taught in rural schools of Warren and Marion County, Iowa. In 1955, the family moved to Monroe where she was an elementary teacher until her retirement in 1959.
She was a long time member of the Fairview Christian Union Church and for the past six years has attended the Indianola Christian Union Church. On May 4, 1915, she was united in marriage to Guy E. Sargent, Sr. To this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband in May 26, 1964, a daughter, Frances Jane and an infant son. Surviving her are two sons, Guy Jr. and wife Mary of Bridgeton, Mo., and William of Monroe. Three grandchildren, Suzanne Reidelberger, Guy E. Sargent III, and Stephanie Fisher. Also five great grandchildren and many other relatives survive.
