Mrs. Bert Owens
'Long A Resident of Prairie City'

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Albert Owens, 76, who passed away at her home Friday afternoon after an illness of several months.

Services were from the Travis Walters funeral home with Rev. Lester C. Hall, of the Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Donald Brewer and Mrs. S. E. Churchill, sang the hymns "Old Rugged Cross" and "Have Thine Own Way." Burial was in Waveland Cemetery.

Pall bearers were George Eatwell, Charles Gilbert, Clarence Gilbert, Dennis Gilbert, Marvin Gilbert, and Ronald Riley.

Rachel Lilly Byers was born near Peoria, Iowa, October 24, 1871, and died at Prairie City, Iowa, August 20, 1948, aged 76 years, 9 months and 26 days.

She was united in marriage in 1890 to George Hess, deceased. In 1907 she was married to Albert Owens, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. G. R. (Kate) Gilbert, of Prairie City, and Mrs. O.A. Eatwell, of Nevada, Iowa; two sons, Ory W. Hess, of Buffalo, N.Y. and John D. Owens, of Clarence, N.Y. One daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Riley, died about 10 years ago. There are 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
