LaMar Melvin De Jong was born September 28, 1935, to Nick and Sarah (DeHeus) De Jong in Lynden, Washington. He passed away August 12, 2016, at the Comfort House in Pella.LaMar attended Pleasant Grove School through 8th grade. He joined the Army on August 18, 1958 and attained the rank of Private E -2, and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1964. LaMar met Marlene Blackwood on a blind date and they were united in marriage on March 18, 1966, at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with three children: Kent, Kristy and Kurt.
LaMar was always working and he always enjoyed it. Throughout his career, LaMar worked in construction and he was a factory worker at Maytag Company for over 22 years. He started a garage door business in 1975, and he started L & M Storage in 1989. LaMar loved socializing and often joined friends for coffee-time at Mc Donald’s, going out to eat, and visiting his sister on Sunday afternoons. He also enjoyed spending time outside sitting on his front porch or camping. LaMar was a loving husband, a great father and grandfather.

Nick, AdalynHe is also survived by his sister Le Nora Van Weelden of Pella.
LaMar was preceded in death by his parents, brother in infancy Clarence De Jong, sisters Lillian Vos and Darlene De Jong, and his parents-in-law Rozelle and La Verna Blackwood.
