Oleta Runyan, 85, of Monroe died of a strike Saturday at Mayflower Home in Grinnell. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Monroe, of which she was a member, with burial at Silent City Cemetery there.
Mrs. Runyan was born in Monroe had lived in Aurora, Ill., briefly before returning to Monroe. She was a homemaker and had worked in the Younkers music department before retiring.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Van Roekel of Monroe and Lana Slagle of Wellman, a son, Robert of Boone; eight grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
Friends may call after noon today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Mayflower Home.

Services Held
Services for Oleta Runyan were held Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Rev. Harold Koughn, pastor, officiated the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Oleta passed away Saturday, February 15, 2003, of a stroke at The Mayflower Home in Grinnell.
It has been suggested that memorials go to the Monroe United Methodist Church or The Mayflower House.
Born March 10, 1917, in Jasper County near Monroe, Oleta was the daughter of Guy Burzec and Myra Tilsie Brock Emmack. She attended Mound Prairie #6 Country School, and was a 1934 graduate of Newton High School. She spent most of her life in Monroe except for a time spent in Aurora, Illinois. She married Robert Earl Runyan June 12, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Oleta was a homemaker and worked at the Music Department at Younkers for ten years. She belonged to the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Survivors are one son, Robert Runyan of Boone; two daughters and son-in-law, Janice and Merritt Van Roekel of Monroe, and Lana and Michael Slagle of Wellman; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.
