Services Held
Joseph Roush, 98, of Prairie City, a lifelong resident of Jasper County and veteran of World War I, died Friday, August 14, 1992 at the Des Moines General Hospital.
The Rev. Timothy Peter, pastor of the church, conducted services.
Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors are his wife, Louise; three grandchildren, Nancy Morrow of Martensdale, Diana Kilbride of Ames and Regan Roush of Lyons, Colorado; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Roush of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Herbert and Delmar, his first wife, Eva, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Roush was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 and the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union.
He operated a garage in Otley before moving to Newton in 1923 where he was employed by the Maytag Co. from 1923 to 1958.
He served in the Army during World War I, seeing action in both France and Belgium.
The son of William and Jane Roush, he was born August 16, 1893, in Monroe and grew up and was educated in the Prairie City-Monroe area.
He was married to Eva Cooper December 23, 1919, and after her death in 1984, was married to Louise Shaw Ritzhaupt June 3, 1991
