Services Held
Jean V. Rostenbach, age 83 of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Monroe, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton with burial following at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

The daughter of Carl & Helena (Christenson) Tonderum, Jean was born on January 29, 1924, in Ottosen, Iowa. She graduated from Dows High School in 1942. Jean moved to Ames with her sisters and worked for I.S.U., where she met Delmar. On November 23, 1947, she was united in marriage to Delmar W. Rostenbach in Dows. After her marriage, they moved to Bennett, Iowa farming for 15 years. They returned to Ames in 1963, while Delmar attended I.S.U. Jean worked for the Ames Laboratory. They moved to Monroe in 1967 upon Delmar’s graduation. Jean worked at Principal in Des Moines for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, sons of Norway Marsteinen #596, The Iowa Polka Club, Monroe Kiwanis, Monroe Legion Auxiliary and Principal Retirees Group. In 2002, Jean and Delmar moved to Vriendschap Village in Pella and in January to The Shores in Pleasant Hill. Jean enjoyed family gatherings, sewing, crocheting and gardening.
Those left to honor her memory, her husband of 59 years, Delmar in Pleasant Hill, her children, Janice McCullough and her husband Harry of West Des Moines, Pat Jenkins and her husband Ray of Melcher, Carol Daggett of Des Moines and Craig Rostenbach and his wife Rita of Bondurant. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ryan McCullough, Aaron McCullough and his wife Charlotte, Joseph Jenkins and his wife Lyn, Joshua Jenkins and Justinn Jenkins; three great grandchildren, Madison, Catherine and Ella; and two brothers, merle Tonderum and his wife Loa Dell and Telbert Tonderum and his wife Eleanor both of Dows.
Preceding Jean in death were her parents, sisters, Evelyn Sills Stebbins and Clareen Schmalzried and a son-in-law, John Daggett.
