Services Held
Services for Gerrit Gene Rooda of Newton were held Monday, January 27, 2003, at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Gerrit Rooda died of cancer Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at his home.
Born November 30, 1933, Gerrit was the son of Andrew and Clara Van Dyke Rooda. He was born in the Netherlands. He moved to the United States when he was 15. June 29, 1990, he married LaDonna Bieshaar in Newton. Gerrit Rooda farmed for 34 years near Searsboro and also worked for Newton Manufacturing. He retired in May 2002. He lived in Newton for 12 years. Mr. Rooda was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton and a member of the Primetime Fellowship.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Gary Rooda and his fiancé, Linda Gunderson, of Rockford, Illinois and Grant Rooda and his wife, Sue, of Searsboro; four daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Whitehead of Pella, Gayla and Scott Van Soelen of Sully, Fonda and Mike Rucks of Vermillion, S.D., and Heidi Rooda of Searsboro; three stepsons and their spouses, Ken and Melody Hartgers of Sully, Kevin and Teresa Hartgers of Colfax, and Mike Hartgers of Des Moines. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Rooda of Newton and Hank Rooda of Otley; and a sister, Renee Van Zee of Otley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
