Services Held
Funeral services were held January 24, 2003, at the Prairie City United Methodist Church for Harold Lee Roberts of Prairie City. The Rev. Jay Robinson, a nephew, conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City following graveside military services by Booth-De Vries Post of the American Legion. Masonic services were conducted Thursday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.
Harold Lee Roberts, 75, a lifelong Prairie City resident, died of cardiac arrest Monday, January 20, 2003 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.
Memorials to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Fund are being accepted.
Mr. Roberts was born May 17, 1927 in Prairie City, the son of Ralph Homer and Mabel Bess Riley Roberts. He was a 1945 graduate of Prairie City High School. He married Betty Louise Robinson November 23, 1947 in Colfax. He was co-owner of Roberts Bros. & Co. Hardware in Prairie City. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, Preston Masonic Lodge, and Za Ga Zig Shrine.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Annette Roberts of Runnells; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rick Berkey of Newton; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Gladys Burns and Louise Steenhoek, both of Prairie City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
