Services Friday for Mrs. Dena Roberts
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard (Dena) Roberts, 81, a resident of the Monroe area for many years will be Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Monroe Silent City Cemetery.
Rev. Warren McFate, minister of the church, will officiate, assisted by Dr. Edwin W. Frohardt, minister of the First United Methodist Church in Newton.
Mrs. Roberts was fatally injured in an auto accident Tuesday afternoon, April 28.
She is survived by her husband, Howard E. Roberts; two daughters, Mrs. Guy (Jean) Wilson of Monroe, and Mrs. Leland (Janet) Cook of Newton; five grandchildren, Jon Wilson of Iowa City, Fred Wilson of Clear Lake, Ann Wilson of Monroe, Mrs. James Bennett of Newton, and Tom Cook of Pella; and three great grandchildren, Susan and Eddie Bennett of Newton and Robbie Wilson of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dr. F. M. Roberts of Knoxville; and a sister, Miss Olive Maddy of Oskaloosa.
Born February 26, 1889, in Rose Hill, she was educated in Oskaloosa Schools and William Penn College in Oskaloosa. She taught in the Monroe High School.
She was married to Howard E. Roberts February 25, 1913.

Woman Killed In 2-Car Crash
Prairie City, IA – Mrs. Howard Roberts, 81, of Monroe, was killed and four persons were injured Tuesday in a two-car collision on U.S. Highway 163 about five miles east of here.
Jasper County Deputy Sheriff Jim Verwers said Mrs. Roberts’ car collided with a car driven by Kenneth Copeland, 49, of Ottumwa.
Copeland was taken to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with broken ribs, a fractured pelvis and a ruptured diaphragm. Two other passengers in his car, Don Denniston, 18, of Ottumwa, and Rosemary McDonough, whose age and address were not given suffered cuts and bruises.
Mrs. Roberts’ husband, Howard, 79, a passenger in her car, was hospitalized at Skiff Memorial Hospital at Newton with multiple face cuts.
