Services Held
Services for Mrs. Gladys M. Rinehart, Knoxville, were held Monday, February 8, 1999, at the First Baptist Church in Pella. Dr. Gary D. Smith, officiated. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Gladys passed away February 3, 1999, at the age of 91 at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville.
Gladys Marie Van Brogen was one of seven children that were born to Henry and Blanche Clark Van Brogen. She was born on December 8, 1907, near Leighton, Iowa. Gladys attended country school in the vicinity. March 21, 1927, she was united in marriage with Murry Lee Rinehart in Pella, and to this union three children were born. They were: Emma, Maxine, Verle Lee and Ronald Ray. Gladys and Murry lived all their married life in Pella where she worked at the overall, seed corn and canning factories while Murry was a Marion County road maintenance department employee and patrolman with the Pella Police Department. Gladys operated the lunch stand at the swimming pool for the American Legion Auxiliary. Her last employment was a cook at Webster Elementary School in Pella. Murry passed away April 16, 1977, shortly following their 50th wedding anniversary. Gladys later made her home with her daughter, Maxine, and for nearly the past two years she had been cared for at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville.
Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorials may be made for the Verle L. Rinehart Memorial Fund at Central College in Pella.
Survivors are two of her children and their spouses: Maxine and Fred Thomson of Monroe; Ronald and Judith Rinehart of Des Moines; another daughter-in-law, Charlene (Verle) Rinehart of Fayetteville, Georgia; and six grandchildren. Of her original family, Gladys leaves one brother, Kenneth Van Brogen of Harrison, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murry; her son, Verle L. Rinehart; a great-granddaughter; her parents; her sisters; and two brothers.
