Services Held
Betty Kool Rietveld, 66, of Pella, formerly of Otley, died Friday, May 21, 1993 at her home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Otley Reformed Church.
The Rev. David Hensley conducted services and burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Pella.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Pella will be accepted.
Survivors are her father, Henry Kool of Foley, Alabama; her husband, Alvin; three daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Jeffery) Laughlin of Davenport, Judi (Mrs. Daryl) Raterlink of Holland, Michigan, and Phyllis (Mrs. Gary) DeReus of Pella; a son, James of Pella; and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Nancy Von Spreckelsen of Warrington, Fla.; two nieces, two nephews and a great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha, June 20, 1985, twin sons in infancy, a sister, Lois Kool, and a brother, Johnny Kool.
Mrs. Rietveld had taught school in Percy and later at Liberty Corner School near Otley. After her family was grown, she became activity coordinator at Des Moines Area Community College and later was employed at Hilltop and Pella Community Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Otley Reformed Church and had taught Sunday school for many years.
The daughter of Henry and Martha Barr Kool, she was born September 17, 1926, at the home of parents and attended schools in the Otley and Pella area.
She was married to Alvin Rietveld December 6, 1945 at the Otley Reformed Church.
