Loren Rickabaugh Dies From Result Of Train Crash
Monroe – Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday from the Methodist church in Monroe, for Loren Rickabaugh, 50, who died at his home at 9:45 a.m. Monday. The Rev. George Pennington will officiate.
Mr. Rickabaugh was injured in a railroad crossing accident near Dunreath, Dec. 11, when he was driving a loaded gravel truck down a steep slope, and failing to see the approaching Wabash freight train which hit the truck as he attempted to cross the track.
He was taken to Skiff Memorial hospital where examination revealed cracked ribs and chest injuries. Apparently recovering from the mishap he was discharged from the hospital Dec. 19. Death came unexpectedly yesterday morning.
The son of James and Elda Rickabaugh, he was born near Dunreath, Ia., March 7, 1895. He was married to Cassie Frazer, June 28, 1916, who with two sons, Lee and Raymond, both at home and two daughters, Mrs. Faye Zerley of Newton, and Mrs. Irma Tool of Warrensburg, Mo., two granddaughters, Michel Tool and Jacqueline Zerley, survive. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Minne Calhoun of Swan, Ia., also three brothers, James and Earl of Knoxville, and Tom of Des Moines.
