John L. Reighard, 72, of Monroe died of cancer Friday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Friends Church in Richland, with burial at Friends Cemetery there.
Mr. Reighard was born in Richland and lived in Monroe 18 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Monroe United Methodist Church, Fred Slayden American Legion Post, Naaman Masonic Lodge in Brighton, Winfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Independent Telephone Pioneers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; two sons, Charles of Columbus Junction and Bob of Keosauqua; two daughters, Nancy Reighard of Colfax and Linda Reighard of Boone; a brother, Richard of Wentzville, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Jasper County Hospice.

In Memory of John Leonard Reighard
John Leonard Reighard, age 71, died Friday, May 30, 1997 at his home in Monroe, Iowa. He was born at Richland, Iowa, September 5, 1925, the son of C. L. (Pat) and Ruth Kent Reighard. A 1944 graduate of the Ollie High School, he served in the United States Navy during World War II from September 7, 1944 until his discharge June 8, 1946.
On September 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Esther Hahn at Keota, Iowa. John was employed in the telephone industry retiring from the Contel Company as a sound supervisor with thirty-seven and a half years of service. John is survived by his wife Esther, two sons: Charles and wife Susan of Columbus Junction and Bob and friend Bonnie of Keosauqua, two daughters: Nancy of Colfax and Linda of Boone, five grandchildren: Sam, Anna, Jennie, Jamie and Ashton. Also surviving is a brother Richard and wife Dee of Wentzville, Mo. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother Glen. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist church, Independent Telephone Pioneers of America, Fred Slayden Post American Legion, Monroe, Winfield VFW and Naaman Lodge #613 AF & AM at Brighton.
Interment at Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa.
Following the interment services, relatives and friends are invited to return to the church for a time of fellowship with the family.
Services: Trinity Friends Church, Richland, Iowa; 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 1997
Officiating: Rev. Tim McGuire, pastor; Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor; Monroe United Methodist Church.

Services Held
Funeral services for John L. Reighard, 71, of Monroe, were held Monday at the Friends Church in Richland.
Burial was in Friends Cemetery in Richland.
Memorials to the Jasper County Hospice will be accepted.
He died of cancer, Friday, May 30, 1997.
The son of C. L. “Pat” and Ruth Kent Reighard, he was born September 5, 1925, in Richland. He graduated from Ollie High School in 1944.
He married Esther Hahn September 30, 1950 in Keota.
A resident of Monroe from 1969 to 1976 he returned to Monroe in 1979. He also lived in Columbus Junction, Winifield, New London, Brighton and Richland.
Mr. Reighard was employed by Contel as a sound supervisor for 37 years. He was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of the Winifield VFW, Naaman Lodge No. 613 AF and AM – Brighton Independent Telephone Pioneers of America, Monroe United Methodist Church, and the Fred Slayden Post American Legion in Monroe.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Susan of Columbus Junction and Bob and Bonnie of Keosauqua; two daughters, Nancy of Colfax and Linda of Boone; five grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dena of Wentzville, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
