Life Story of John Ratcliff
Services were held April 29 at the Friends Church in Lynnville for John Vernon Ratcliff. Rev. Ernest Thompson conducted the services. Interment was in the Friends Cemetery in Lynnville.
John Vernon Ratcliff, son of William Vernon and Maranne Cobbs Ratcliff was born at New Sharon, Iowa on June 14, 1885 and entered into rest April 26, 1978 at the Skiff Hospital in Newton, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 12 days. On February 1, 1909 he was united in marriage to Eva Mae Bowen at Des Moines.
Mr. Ratcliff was a mechanic, having operated a garage in Lynnville, and also had been employed by Jasper County. He had served on the Lynnville School Board and the City Council.
He is survived y 5 children: Eva Rosmond Johnson of Sand Point, Idaho; Walter Ratcliff of Monroe; Gene Ratcliff of Newton; Mrs. Ambrose (Betty) Collum of Grinnell and Roy R. Ratcliff of Newton. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Ratcliff was preceded in death by a daughter Marilyn and his wife on November 1, 1975.
