Passes Away
John Leuty Prunty, Jr., son of John Leuty and Margaret Eveluth (Stone) Prunty, was born in Greeley, Colorado on September 18, 1924, and passed away at the Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Moines on November 2, 2005, at the age of 81 years.
John moved to Monroe, Iowa, during his senior year of high school and graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. On April 9, 1944, he was united in marriage to Sarah Elaine Burton. Two sons, Burton and Lynn, completed their family.
John and Elaine lived near Red Rock until 1952 when they moved their family to Columbia and later in 1963 they moved to Chariton. John enjoyed being a farmer and especially enjoyed driving his mini-mules. His hobbies included welding, woodworking, and playing pinochle with his lifelong friends. John was an elder in the Chariton Christian Church and many Sundays he would arrive at the church early, open the doors, and greet his friends when they arrived. Later in 2001 when he and Elaine moved to Corydon he became a member of the Corydon United Methodist Church. He also volunteered as a helper at the Wayne County Museum.
Survivors are his wife, Elaine of Corydon; sons Burton and wife Linda of Allerton and Lynn and wife Nancy of Healdsburg, California; grandsons Scott and wife Lisa of Osage City, Kansas, Brent and wife Tammy of Fairfield, Justin of Osage City, Kansas, Tim and wife Mindy of Allerton, Jay of Windsor, California, and Ryan of Hayward, California, and seven great grandchildren. He also leaves sisters Lorene Wheatcraft of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Joan Van Wyk and husband, Ralph of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Michael Prunty and an infant sister, Janette.
