Gretta I. Powell, age 98 of Monroe died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Careage of Newton. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Monroe. Burial took place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola on Wednesday.

The daughter of Ury & Luella (Morehouse) Simms, Gretta was born on September 17, 1908, in Osceola, Iowa. Gretta graduated from Osceola High School. On February 5, 1928, she was united in marriage to Harold S. Powell in Osceola. Gretta worked as a farm wife and also as a housekeeper at the Clark County Hospital. She was a member of the Christian Church of Osceola. Gretta enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening, quilting, handiwork, collecting frogs, playing cards with friends, and farm life.
Those left to honor her memory is her daughter, Joe Ann Noble of Monroe, two granddaughters, Paula Keuning and her husband Tom and Sue Warrick and her husband Dave both of Monroe. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Staci Geer and her husband Andrew of Kasson, Minnesota, Drew Keuning and his wife Jess of Ankeny, Shawna Warrick and Shyann Warrick all of Monroe and two great grandsons, Caleb and Hudson Geer.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three sisters, Dale Wilson, Mildred Simms and Helen Gorsline, a brother, Lewis Simms and a son-in-law, Bernley Noble.
