Mary Josephine Mullen Porter, age 51 of Monroe, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center Monarch Wing in Newton. Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, October 19, 2009, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in rural Cumberland, Iowa, with burial following at St. Timothy’s Cemetery.

The daughter of Charles and Patricia (Waters) Mullen, Mary was born on January 19, 1958, in Corning, Iowa. She attended the rural Mt. Etna Schools until 5th grade and then attended Corning Community Schools graduating with the class of 1976. She married Steven K. Porter at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church on February 2, 1980. To this union they raised four children and farmed around the Cumberland/Massena area.
Survivors are her children: Jon Porter and wife Christy of Ames, Marie Morrill and husband Jon and granddaughter Angela of Monroe, Laura Porter of Monroe, and Sarah Porter of Monroe. Also surviving is Steve Porter of Cumberland. Also surviving are brothers, Russ Mullen and wife Michele of Ames, Steve Mullen and wife Marilea of Corning, Jeff Mullen and wife Martha of Minnesota, and Dan Mullen and wife Karen of Tennessee, sisters, Sharon Hewitt and husband Daryl of Cedar Rapids, Barb Lindquist and husband Warren of Sioux City, and Patty Mullen of Council Bluffs, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents and an infant son, Daniel Keith Porter.
