Services Held
Chester D. Pickett, 80, a resident of Newton for 60 years, died Saturday evening, June 22, 1991 at the Skiff Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Donald of Newton and James, of Altoona; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Charles of Casper, Wyoming, and Overton of Mitchellville; and two sisters, Mamie Griggs of Monroe and Ruth Gray of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Omar Jay, and an infant sister.
Mr. Pickett was employed by the Vernon Co. prior to his retirement.
The son of Garfield and Goldie Fisher Pickett, he was born February 23, 1911 at Unionville, Mo., and attended school in Putnam County, Mo.
He was married to Dorothy Faye Cooper May 12, 1934 in Newton.
