Life Story of Ada Patterson
Ada Pearl Romans, daughter of James M. and Mary Eleanor McCuen Romans was born near Monroe, Iowa, January 31, 1885 and passed from this life at Long Beach, Calif. on February 26, 1969 at the age of 84 years and 26 days.
She was graduated from Monroe High School in 1901. She was married to Fred Hendershot on September 5, 1905, at Monroe.
She became very expert in the millinery field and for a number of years she and her husband resided at Madison, Wisc., where she was in charge of wedding apparel and headpieces at Madison’s principal department store.
Mr. Hendershot’s death occurred in 1942, in Madison, Wisc. She later worked at Younkers, in Des Moines.
She was married to George Patterson September 19, 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson have resided in Long Beach, Calif. for many years.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by her husband, George Patterson; three nephews, Bond Romans, Silver Springs, Md.; Robert Romans, Sykesville, Md.; and John Romans, Urbana, Ill.; one niece Mrs. Mary Romans Ross, Bethesda, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hal Romans, Washington, D. C.
Other survivors at Monroe are one first cousin, Mrs. Glen Prindle (Celia McCuen Lust) and one second cousin, Mrs. Abram Kool (Mable Fudge).
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William H. and Hal Romans; and one sister, Mrs. John Lust (Ida Grace Romans).
Memorial services were held Friday afternoon at Crumpacker Funeral Home with Rev. James Poulsen officiating. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
