Services Held
Services for Virgil M. Oswalt, of Monroe, were held Wednesday at the United Pentecostal Church in Newton. Pastor Robert Shaw of the United Pentecostal church and Pastor Doug Brady of the Living Work Fellowship in Knoxville officiated. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Virgil passed away Saturday August 5, 2006, at his home in Monroe at the age of 73.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be left to the family in Virgil’s name. The memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Virgil Oswalt, the son of Ralph D. and Bessie P. (Gladison) Oswalt was born March 15, 1933, in Lovilia, Iowa. Virgil served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, model airplanes and John Wayne western movies. He married Ella A. Griggs June 27, 1964, in Newton. Virgil had lived in Newton for 34 years prior to moving to Monroe, where he has lived for 32 years. He was a machine operator and welder in the factory at the Winpower Company for 29 ˝ years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton.
Survivors are his wife, Ella; 6 sons, Dean (Michelle) Oswalt, David (Barb) Oswalt, John (Marsha) Oswalt, Matt (Diane) Oswalt, Daniel (Amber) Oswalt, all of Newton, and James (Heather) Oswalt of Monroe, 5 daughters, Carla (Ted) Stanzyk of Colfax, Mary (Marvin) Shaw of Newton, Nancy (Adam) Nimmo of Newton, Debbie (Paul) Wallace of Knoxville, and Sarah Oswalt and her fiancé, Cody Marcum of Monroe. He also leaves 30 grandchildren and a brother, Duane E. (Lorna) Oswalt of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons in infancy; a sister, and a brother.
