Services Held
Florence Mae Mohler, age 85 of Monroe, died Friday, September 08, 2006, at Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mohler were held on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Community of Christ Church in Monroe with burial following at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorials may be given to Kavanaugh Hospice House or the Monroe Emergency Unit and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
Florence was born September 4, 1921, in Pleasanton, Iowa in Decatur County to Roy & Edith (Robinson) Swanson. She graduated from Lacona High School in 1939. She was the eldest of three children. Florence married Carl Mohler on May 2, 1943 in Knoxville and moved to Carl’s family farm in Dunreath where they together raised two daughters. When the farm was sold for the Red Rock Dam in 1966, the house was moved to Monroe where she lived until death. Florence was a fourth generation member of the Community of Christ Church, baptized in 1940. She served as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, she was church women’s leader for years, Farm Bureau Township Chairman for a number of years, Marion County Women’s Chairman for two years, and a 4-H leader for 20 years. After moving to Monroe in 1966, she served as book steward for 30 years. In the community she was a member of the Today’s Club, she was always part of the “Women’s World Day of Prayer,” she was also in Prime Timers, visiting the school children.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Judy of Jefferson and Carolyn of Des Moines. Those also left to honor her memory are one sister, Lavinia (Paul) Wright of Knoxville, one sister-in-law, Marilyn Swanson of Knoxville, 2 grandchildren, Wende (Jay) Barrett of Des Moines, and Matt (Jennifer) Bristow of Des Moines, two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kendall, 4 nieces, five nephews, and a host of friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl, and brother Bud.
