Opal A. Miller, the daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Davis) Grimes was born in Martinsdale, Iowa on June 6, 1919, and passed away at her apartment in Pleasant Hill on August 31, 2008, at the age of 89. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Burial followed at Vandalia Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
On June 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Cecil Miller in Polk County. They made their home in the rural Runnells area, where they farmed in the Bennington area all of their married life.
She is survived by her children, Judy Livesay of Van Meter and Larry “Butch” Miller and his wife Donna of Runnells, a son-in-law, Roger (Dianne) Breckenridge of Newton; 30 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Sally West and her husband James of Runnells and Jean Pothorff of Lamoni, and a brother, Alvie Grimes and his wife Blanche of Des Moines.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Norma Breckenridge, a son-in-law, Dick Livesay, three brothers, Glen, Clifford and Richard, two sisters, Effie and Irene and two grandchildren in infancy, Kevin Miller and Sandra Hilligas.
