Vonk, Case Jr. – 1905-1967

Case Vonk Rites Conducted at Sully; Died on Saturday
SULLY – Funeral services for Case Vonk Jr., 61, prominent Sully resident, were held this afternoon at the Sully First Reformed Church.
The Rev. Harold Kammeraad, minister of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Sully Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson Terpstra and Abe Vander Beek, the singers, were accompanied by Mrs. Abe Vander Beek, the organist.
Pallbearers were Elmer Dean Willemsen, Edward Hoksbergen, Melvin Vonk, James Talsma Jr., Morris Rozendaal and Harry Lanser.
Pella Garden Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mr. Vonk, who died Saturday morning at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for more than a month, was manager of the Sully Coop Elevator for 14 years and for 25 years had been associated with the Sully Coop Oil.
A member of the Sully First Reformed Church, he was also a member of the Sully Lions Club, served as president of the Sully school board, was presently vice-president of the Sully Telephone Association, was Sully fire chief for many years, was formerly a member of the board of directors of the Pella Garden Chapel and was a member of the Sully Cemetery Association board.
Survivors are his wife, Alice; three sons, William (Bud) of Grinnell, Cleo of Sully and Ronald of Fort Worth, Tex.; five daughters, Mrs. Duane (Berneda) Oswalt of Sully, Mrs. Clifford (Joy) Verwers of Fort Worth, Tex.; Mrs. Ed (Jeane) Montray of Wichita, Kan.; Mrs.
Lanny (June) Fife of Dallas, Tex.; and Mrs. Jack (Elaine) Kovacevich of Ankeny; 22 grandchildren and his father and step-mother, Case and Gertrude (Huisman) Vonk of Reasnor.
Also surviving are two brothers, Tunis of Oskaloosa and Richard of Newton; eight sisters; Mrs. Jennie Hoksbergen of Sully; Mrs. Fred (Janet) Van Dyke of Oskaloosa; Mrs. John (Rena) Rozenboom of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Neil (Gertrude) Willemsen of Otley; Mrs. Pete (Minnie) Van Manen; Mrs. Paul (Nellie) Van Maaren of Sully; Mrs. Cornie (Corrie) Terpstra of Sully and Mrs. Anthony (Evalina) Vende Wege of Denver, Colo.; a step-brother and four step-sisters.
He was preceded in death by his mother who died when he was 16.
The son of Case and Nellie Van Holland Vonk he was born Sept. 30, 1905 at Veenendaal, The Netherlands, and came to the United States with his parents in 1914, settling in the Sully community.
He was married to Alice Baarda Oct. 9, 1928 at Pella
