Mack Wade, Early Resident of Colfax Died on Thursday
Funeral Services Held Sunday From Baptist Church
Mack D. Wade, 81, well-known Colfax resident died at his home in this city Thursday morning following an illness of some duration.
Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Albert Vander Ploeg officiating.
Mack Douglas Wade was born at Sheffield, Illinois, Oct. 8, 1857 and departed this life Thursday morning at 2 a.m. Dec. 15, 1938 at his home at Colfax, Iowa, aged 81 years, 2 months and 7 days.
He was united in marriage to Elnora Brown, January 1, 1886 at Audubon, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, Rupert D. Wade of Chetek, Wis., Mrs. Anna Hilton of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Leatha Claussen, Melvin Wade and Mrs. Margaret Ireland of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, Mrs. Vivian Shepherd of Orleans, Iowa. These six children and his wife and two brothers, Sidney Wade and Durley Wade of Colfax, Iowa, and four sisters, Lola Anderson, Anna Tufired, Mamie Baker and Ella Hodgetts survive him. One son, Mack Wade Jr., preceded him in death March 1, 1924. Besides his wife and children, he has 27 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The family left Iowa in 1915 for Hertel, Wisconsin and returned to Superior, Iowa, in 1923. They moved to Colfax, Iowa in 1927 on the old home place of his father.
Besides his family he leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss.
He was a kind husband and father and a man of integrity ever faithful to those around him. During his long illness he was most faithfully cared for by his wife and children and his brother Durley, who did all they could to serve him in his needs.
He definitely confessed a faith in Christ as his Saviour. We therefore, do not mourn as those who have no hope, but look for the reunion assured to all who trust in Christ as their Saviour.
Music was furnished by Mrs. J. Rinker, Mrs. Ida Helming, Gomer Williams and Lewis Edwards Jr., with Mrs. George Rinker accompanist.
Pall bearers were Eli Haines, Oliver Hanning, Archie Engle, Lawrence Marshall, Alden Connelley and Jake Gableman.
Interment was in the Colfax cemetery.
