Life Story of Lena R. Meade
Mrs. Elgia Edwin (Lena R.) Meade, 78, of Embassy Manor, a resident of Newton since 1916, died Jan. 10 at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Survivors are two sons, Ed of Newton and Gordon of Klamath Falls, Ore.; six daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Marvel) Cooper of Newton, Mrs. Derrel (Frances) Waring of Monroe, Mrs. Richard (Anne) Green of Des Moines, Mrs. James (Iris) Denison of Carthage, Mo., Mrs. Neal (Catherine) Cannady of Eugene, Ore., and Mrs. Ronald (Bette) Simpson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Spiker of Des Moines; and a brother, Frank Combs of Springfield, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Aug. 22, 1949; a son, Leighton; and four brothers.
Mrs. Meade was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
The daughter of Samuel Curtis and Anna Marie Fink Combs, she was born January 3, 1895, in Redfield and attended Redfield schools.
She was married March 17, 1913, at Redfield.
