A Good Woman Passes Away
Mrs. Margaret McMichael, who had been in poor health for some time, passed away at her home Friday evening, after all nature had passed into the stillness of night. At about 11:50 o’clock she closed her eyes to all that was dear on earth and her mortal body calmly passed into the mighty sleep of death, while her spirit passed into the bright light of the morning of eternity to meet her Maker, whom she loved so well. She was a member of the Methodist church and was a regular attendant when health would permit. Her prayers were full of faith and confidence and her testimonies clear and bright. She lived not in the mists and fogs of doubt but in the sunlight of the living God. Her kind Christian spirit and genial life carried with it sunshine and joy wherever she moved in her association with others.
Margaret Adelaid McMichael was born in a village near Berlin, Germany, on August 5, 1831, and came to this country at the age of 9 year with her parents, a sister and brother.
The parents first settled in Adair county, Iowa, in 1840, leaving the daughter, Margaret Adelaid, at school in Quincy, Illinois, where she met her first husband, who died in 1853, leaving besides his widow, Mary Caroline and John Kirkman.
She was afterwards married to Carl F. Kapp and from this union one daughter survives, Mrs. Lydia Huttenlochir. This union was short, death again entered.
She was then married to Mathew R. McMichael and from this last union there survives Dr. A. O. McMichael, of Denver, Colorado; George A. McMichael, residing in Livingston, Montana, Amelia Highland, living in Unga, Alaska; James W. McMichael, of Carlisle, Iowa and Clara McMichael, who made her home with her mother. All of these children were present here except Amelia Highland, who is in Alaska.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, her pastor, Enoch Hill, officiating. There were many beautiful floral offerings from friends and relatives. The body was laid to rest in our “Silent City.”
