Salina Scarborough McCauley was born in Jasper county, Iowa, June 9, 1856, and died at her home in Mitchellville, Iowa July 11, 1929, at the age of 73 years. She was united in marriage to Oscar McCauley, Feb. 8, 1883, and to this union two sons were born Wilbur and Elmer. Joshua Chipps, her foster-father, in whose home she spent many years, now resides in California, and will be 100 years old his next birthday. Mrs. McCauley united with the Methodist Episcopal church in early life and has been an active and faithful member for many years. She loved her church and its services and when health permitted was always in her place at church on the Sabbath day. She had numerous friends not only in Monroe and Mitchellville, and vicinity, but also in California where she resided for several years. She leaves to mourn her loss, the two sons, Charles Wilbur McCauley of Monroe, Iowa, and Elmer J. McCauley of Santa Anna, California, two brothers Martin and Charles, one sister, Mrs. Mary Ella Coffman of Winterset, Iowa, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. The church and community suffer a distinct loss in the death of this good woman. Her firm faith in God that sustained her through her final sickness, her sterling Christian character, her many splendid qualities – these won for her the admiration, esteem and love of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. A good woman has passed from earthly scenes to higher realms above. Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord. They rest from labors and their works do follow them.
Funeral services were held at Mitchellville Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. A. E. George officiating. Several musical numbers were given by Mrs. C. O. Sipes, Mrs. A. H. Brock, Mrs. Horace Cash, Mrs. J. E. Soutter and Mrs. A. E. George. Six nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers: Giles Moore, Winterset, Thos. Coffman, Winterset; Guy Adams, Des Moines; Frank McCauley, Altoona; James McCauley, and Earl Offill, Prairie City. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
