Services Held
Funeral services for Howard M. May, 78, of Rt. 1, Gilman, were held Tuesday, July 28, 1992, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
The Rev. Tom Franklin, pastor of the Grace Community Church in Grinnell; conducted services. Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery.
He died July 25, 1992, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Survivors are his mother, Nola, of Grinnell; his wife, Wilma; two sons, Dale and Richard, both of Grinnell; a daughter, Karen Peterson of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Maxine Dickerson of Bartlesville, Okla., and Annabelle Barnes of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, an infant sister and a granddaughter.
Mr. May had worked at Midwest Manufacturing Co. in Kellogg, later farmed near Davenport and had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal.
He moved to Gilman in 1947 where he continued to farm. He sold his produce in Grinnell for many years and most recently at the Farmers Market in Des Moines.
He was a member of the Grinnell Elks BPO Lodge 1266.
The son of William J. and Nola Kain May, he was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Monroe and attended Monroe and Kellogg schools.
He was married to Wilma Adkins Feb. 16, 1935 in Newton.
