Life Story of Mrs. Mathies
Hattie Blanche Love was born on January 28, 1893, in Dunreath, Iowa. She was the daughter of George Love and Margaret Carr Love. She was married to William E. Zerley in 1910. To this union, three children were born.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Newton; the Marthas and Mary Sunday School Class at the United Methodist Church in Monroe, the Order of Eastern Star, choir at church, the Rebekahs, and American Legion Auxiliary at Newton.
In 1943 she was married to Walter Mathies in Newton where they made their home. Her residence at the time of her death was at the Medi-Center of America in Des Moines. Prior to this, she was a resident of the Resthaven Home in Newton for one year.
She is survived by one son, Burton Zerley of Monroe, two daughters, Mrs. Horace (Thelma) Smith of Des Moines, and Mrs. Iris Z. Hemphill of Des Moines; one step-daughter, Lorraine Mathies of Chula Vista, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Ruckman of Prairie City; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William E. Zerley and her second husband, Walter H. Mathies.
