Services Held For Cynthia Matherly
Cynthia Suzanne Matherly of 608 West Adams Street in Monroe, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, after a short illness. She had been hospitalized at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for two days. She was 17 years, 10 months and five days of age at the time of her death and lived all her life in Monroe.
Cynthia was born in Newton, the daughter of Forrest E. and Wilma Jean (Morris) Matherly, Jr. on December 12, 1950. She attended the Monroe Public Schools where she was a Senior. She was a member of the Monroe Methodist church where she participated in the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Cynthia is survived by her parents and a sister, Deborah, Mrs. Dennis Rickabaugh of Monroe. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lottie Morris of Eddyville, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest E. Matherly, Sr. of Shenandoah. There are many aunts, uncles and cousins surviving also.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John F. Morris, who passed away in 1951.
Funeral services for Miss Matherly were held Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. James V. Poulsen, minister of the church, conducted the services.
“Be Still My Soul” was sung by Mrs. James Dockum accompanied by Mrs. Devayne Honnold, who also played “The Lord’s Prayer”.
Users were Val Thompson, Gary McConeghey, Larry Davis and Charles Blankenship.
Casket bearers were Dale Norris, Gale Morris, Fred Morris, Mark Sloan, Steven Matherly and Tommy McNamara.
Mrs. Wayne Lubberden and Mrs. David Nimmo were the flower attendants.
Interment was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
