Services Held
Funeral services for Virgil P. “Pepper” Martin, 85 of Newton was held Thursday, April 26, 1990, at the First Presbyterian Church.
Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.
He died Monday afternoon at Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.
Survivors are his wife, Doris; a son, Timothy of Des Moines; a daughter, Alice (Mrs. Andrew) Ayers Jr. of Wheaton, Ill.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Mrs. Rueben) Keastner of Lamoni.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Delta and three brothers.
The son of Abner and Alice Higdon Martin, he was born Jan. 26, 1905 at Davis City.
He was married to Delta Coffelt Nov. 10, 1927 and to Doris Brooks Jan. 22, 1984 in Newton.
He also had resided in Monroe.
