Mabel C. Lourens, age 93 of Mitchellville, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

The daughter of Harry & Sara (Groves) Coan, Mabel was born on May 24, 1913, in Des Moines. Mabel graduated from Altoona High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Gerritt Lourens on January 17, 1948. Mabel was a member of the Colfax Presbyterian Church until its closing. She was a devoted farm wife, who took great pleasure in helping out with what ever needed to be done. She also enjoyed providing for her family and Iowa State Men’s Basketball.
Survivors are a son, Gerry Lourens and his wife Marcy of Mitchellville, a step son, Arnold Lourens and his wife Carol of Lorimor, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Ethel Conn in Des Moines.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 2002, three brothers, Art, Johnny and Tommy and a step daughter, Jean.
