Services Held
Funeral services for Gladys Hummel Lewis, 94 was held Friday, Feb. 17, 1989 at the Monroe Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
Rev. Rick Cowman, pastor of the Monroe Open Arms Baptist Church conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Chariton Manor in Chariton.
Survivors are four sons, Charles and Harry, both of Monroe, J. H. of Des Moines and Harley of Chariton; a daughter, Georgi (Mrs. Ivan) Ross of Monroe; 29 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nadine Manfefel of Oxford, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, a daughter, Roberta Ross, four sisters, Clara Morgan, Cletta Ward, Mildred Prentice and Arvilla Bowie, and a half brother, Leslie Hummel.
The daughter of John and Lottie Howard Hummel, she was born Nov. 23, 1894 in Monroe.
She was married to Charles Lewis Sept. 23, 1913 in Des Moines.
