Esther Louise Elliott, age 69, of Newton, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 3, 2016, surrounded by her family in Newton.

Esther, the daughter of Melvin and Vina (Krugh) Handeland, was born on Friday, December 27, 1946. She attended Newton schools and worked various jobs following. On September 3, 1988 Esther married the love of her life, David Eugene Elliott. Together they made their home in Newton. Esther dearly loved her family and was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed many different kinds of crafts, playing cards, reading, and watching Disney movies.

Those left to cherish Esther's memory are her husband, David; their children, Tim (Lynne) Cottrell of Newton, Tammy (Michael) Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, Tanya (Kevin) Neef of Hiawatha, IA, John (Nicole) Elliott of Newton, Juanita Elliott, David "Jake" Elliott, Melissa (Jeff) Lewis, Shawn Retman, and Kirk Van Reese; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Melvin Handeland, Signa Hesse, Melvina Hansen, and Jim Handeland.
