Services Held
Funeral services for Anthon Langstraat were held Monday, October 8, 2007, at Second Christian Reformed Church, Pella. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery at Pella.
Anthony Frederick Langstraat was born on August 23, 1922, in the Sandridge vicinity in Marion County near Pella, Iowa. Tony, as he became known, could not speak English when he started school and completed only the 8th grade at a country grade school near Peoria, Iowa. On August 28, 1942, he was united in marriage with Marie Kamerick in Mahaska County, Iowa. They moved into Pella where he was employed at Schiebout Tire Company and lived there until moving to a farm south of Otley, Iowa, and then east of Monroe, Iowa. Tony continued to farm west of Pella the remainder of his working lifetime until he retired in 1970. On February 12, 1977, his wife, Marie, passed away. Then on December 29, 1981, he was united in marriage with Sylvia Klyn Vander Molen. In July of 2005 Tony was admitted to the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella and subsequently was transferred to Jefferson Place. He was cared for there, the remainder of his lifetime. Tony was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
Survivors are his wife, Sylvia; his eight children and their spouses; and 23 grandchildren. They and their families are: Larry Langstraat and his friend, Pat Braaksma of Monroe, Iowa; Wayne and JoAnn (Hulleman) Langstraat of Columbia, Iowa; Tony Jr. and Ruth (Kaldenberg) Langstraat of Pella, Iowa; Diana and Dave Van Veen of Monroe, Iowa; Dennis Langstraat of Pella, Iowa; Janice and Dean Rankin of Pella, Iowa; Janet and Roger De Moss of New Sharon, Iowa; Faye and Dan Steffen of Knoxville, Iowa. Tony leaves a step-son and his wife and their four children: Carl and Marcy Vander Molen of Bradenton, Florida; Tony’s family has grown to include 44 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Of his original family he leaves the following brothers and sisters and their spouses: Henry and Eloise Langstraat of New Sharon, Iowa; Agnes (Marion) Roorda of Pella, Iowa; Wilbur and Bernice Langstraat of New Sharon; and Anna Mae (Lloyd) Williams of New Sharon. His extended family includes the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Bertha (Kamerick) Mathes of Chariton, Iowa, Martinus Kamerick of Chillicothe, Iowa, Muriel (Kamerick) Goemaat of Knoxville, Iowa, Jennie (Kamerick) Bogaards and Julia (John) Kamerick both of Pella; Arthur Klyn of Pella, Gerald and Margaret Klyn of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Ray Klyn, Marjorie (Klyn) and Arthur Sneller of Pella, John and Lois Klyn of New Sharon, Marvin and Phyllis Klyn of Hudsonville, Michigan, Marion and Glenda Klyn of Pella, Sid and Mary Klyn of Jennison, Michigan, Lawrence and Velda Klyn, Lester and Linda Klyn of Pella.
Tony was preceded in death by his first wife; a grandson; and great-grandson; a daughter-in-law; his parents, Pete and Minnie Langstraat; and a brother and his wife; and two brothers-in-law.
