He came to Jasper County, in 1870, and on December 22nd, 1896 he was united in marriage with Margaret Donaldson of Monroe, who preceded him to glory.
When he was a young man, he became a telegrapher and had charge of the Monroe railroad station for some years; later he ran the Kingdon Grocery Store, from which he retired when he was elected assistant cashier of the Monroe National Bank, which position he held, and that of cashier, with great acceptance for about thirty years, retiring some years ago. Since retirement from the bank, he has lived a retired life with Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Buckley of Monroe, his daughter and son-in-law.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church all his adult life and was treasurer thereof for over thirty years. He was highly respected and loved by all who knew him; kindly, obliging, deferential and gracious to all. His kindly manner and smiling face won for him the respect and esteem of all who knew him; and his kindly deeds, many of them unknown, have ingratiated him into the love of countless friends who mourn his departure.
