Mrs. E. E. Barber Dies From Stroke
Funeral Services Held This Afternoon From M. E. Church – Born in Marion County, December 26, 1837
Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal Church for Mrs. E. E. Barber who died at five o’clock Tuesday afternoon, from a paralytic stroke, received earlier in the day.
The services were in charge of Rev. R. C. Buchanan, pastor of the Methodist church of Monroe. Interment was made in the Monroe cemetery.
The pallbearers were Henry Herwehe, John Custor, Frank Chipps, William Romans, Harry Shaw and E. C. Webb.
Salena Moorehouse was born December 26, 1837 at Carroll, Ohio and departed this life November 12, 1929 at 5 o’clock p.m. Having reached the ripe old age of 91 years, 10 months and 16 days.
At the age of nine years she came to Marion county, Iowa with her parents. Her father, John Moorehouse, homestead was one mile south of Red Rock, where she grew to womanhood. On September 30, 1858 she was married to John Jones, a soldier in Tennessee, to this union two children were born, Wm. Jones, deceased and Mrs. Alice Thomasson of Monroe. On July 4th, 1863, she was again married to E. E. Barber of Prairie Grove, Iowa. To this union nine children were born, four having preceded her in death, five living: Mrs. A. L. Lindsey of Amelia, Nebraska, Ernest Barber of Mapleton, Iowa. Williard Barber of Blanco, Iowa and Frank of Onawa, Iowa.
There are twenty–one grandchildren, thirty–four great–grandchildren and two great–great–grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Moorehouse of Milo, Iowa and Lemuel Moorehouse of Long Beach, California. One sister, Mrs. Jennie Dewey of Percy, Iowa. These relatives with the aged husband and a host of friends are left to mourn her loss.
She lived a consistent Christian life and has entered into a well earned rest.
