Funeral services were held September 27, 1985, for Leland R. Balmer at the Monroe Methodist Church. Rev. Gerald McGee officiated with interment in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Leland R. Balmer, age 81, passed away on September 25, 1985 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital. He was born on April 19, 1904, the son of John and Dena Wittmer Balmer, at Monroe. On October 16, 1926, he was united in marriage to Honor McCauley at Des Moines, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Honor, a daughter and son–in–law Twila and John Vriezelaar of Monroe, a brother, Kenneth Balmer of Omaha, Nebraska, 2 grandchildren Susan (Mrs. Greg) Gildersleeve and Hugh Vriezelaar, both of Monroe and 2 great grandchildren, Stacy and Doug Gildersleeve.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Ruth Forker, a granddaughter Sandra Jean Vriezelaar and 2 infant brothers.
