Services for James L. Baker, were held Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Monroe. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
James L. Baker, 47, of Pella, passed away of cancer Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Pella Regional Health Center.
It is hoped to have a complete obituary in next week’s paper.

Services Held
Services for James L. Baker were held Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Monroe. Rev. Josue Florendo officiated the services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
James L. (Jim) Baker was born at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa, on October 29, 1952, to Donald and Shirley Fairman Baker. When Jim was three, the family moved to Storm Lake where he started school. They later moved to Madrid, Iowa, where Jim became active in Boy Scouts, baseball, basketball, and track. In 1967, the family moved to Pella. He joined the Monroe Methodist Church in 1968. While in high school in Pella, he enjoyed participating in music, drama, and athletics. He graduated from Pella High in 1970. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University, served in the Iowa Air Guard from 1971–1973, and earned his pilot license from Iowa Lakes Community College. He was a member of the American Legion. Jim returned to Pella in 1987 and worked for Pella Construction and Pella Corporation.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Shirley Baker of Pella; his sister and her husband, Sherry and Joel Howard of Nevada, Iowa; his brother and his wife, Randy and Susan Baker and nephews Ryan and Brandon Baker all of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his four grandparents.
