Rain-Slick Highway – 5 Die in Crash
Moran, IA – Five persons were killed in a car-truck crash Saturday night on rain-slick Iowa Highway 141, just south-east of here.
The Iowa Highway patrol said that the dead included two small girls, a girl between 19 and 22 years of age and two male adults in their mid-twenties.
Identification of the dead was withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
Patrolman Ronald Reed said the five dead were all in one car, a white Mustang, traveling west on 141.
He said the car apparently skidded into the path of an eastbound truck. Two men in the truck were injured. Their names were not available, he said. Reed said that a girl, about three years old, was the only survivor of the crash in the Mustang.
He said she was picked up by a passerby who took her to a Perry hospital. She was later transferred to Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines.
A third car traveling behind the truck collided with the truck from the rear but the driver was not injured, Reed said.
Patrolman Reed said that details of the accident were not available, but it appeared that it was raining heavily when the accident occurred.
He described the highway as “very greasy” at the scene of the crash.
