Ruth C. Ammer was born on June 29, 1896, to William Sherman Cash and Lulu Root Cash, near Macksville, Kansas. She died Monday, March 8, 1993, at Valley View Village in Des Moines of heart problems. The family moved to Iowa when Ruth was five years old. After attending schools in Blakesburg and Eldon, she graduated from Monroe High School in 1914, after which she attended Grinnell College for two years. She taught in a rural school and in the Monroe Public School.
On October 21, 1925, she was united in marriage to Carl O. Ammer. To this union were born three children – Philip Cash, Elizabeth Lou, and Rodney Hugh. They were in the hardware business in Monroe until moving to Sac City, Iowa in 1948, and continued in the hardware business until retirement in 1968. Ruth was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Woman’s Club, History Club, Eater (sic) Star and P.E.O. In 1987 she moved to Valley View Village Retirement Home in Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her son Rodney, and a brother Horace Cash. She is survived by her children Phil & Dolores Ammer of Munds Park, AZ & Elizabeth Lou and Leland Long of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and eight great–grandchildren, and a brother Ralph Cash of Bloomington, IN.
Services were held last Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.
