Ernie T. Cook, Jr., 59, of Newton, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5-6:30 p.m., Monday, February 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Ernie’s name may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Ernie, the son of Ernie and Eleanor (Bertram) Cook, Sr., was born on May 30, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He married Donna Southern on April 2, 1983 at the First Christian Church in Newton. They made their home in St. Joseph before moving to Newton.

Ernie graduated from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Trade School in Marshalltown. He worked as a Master Plumber, owning his own company Cook Plumbing from 1996 until his retirement in 2015, when his son, Christopher, took over the ownership. After he retired from full-time work, he worked part-time at Farver True Value in Newton. Ernie enjoyed helping others, which was why he liked being a plumber. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.

Those left to survive Ernie are his wife, Donna Cook of Newton; children, Christopher (Elizabeth) Cook of Colfax, Katie (Darrel) Meling of Newton, and Kevin (Kristi) Cook of Newton; grandchildren, Cadance, Maynard, and Emerson; his siblings, Raymond (Vicki) Cook and Pam Shalline, both of St. Joseph, Missouri; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and JoAnn Southern of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Allen Cook and Stillman “Tinker” Cook. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 10 Feb 2016.
