Obituary for Lois J Vande Lune
Lois Jean Struik was born on December 27, 1937, in Newton, Iowa. She was a daughter of Hubert and Hendrika Van Norden Struik. Lois attended country grade school and graduated from Newton High School in 1956. Lois met Lowell Ray Vande Lune during high school and they were united in marriage on April 5, 1957 at the Newton Christian Reformed Church. Lois and Lowell traveled to The Ozarks for their honeymoon in his 1950 Studebaker and in route they visited the Bridal Cave and Dogpatch. Following their marriage they settled down on the farm near Prairie City, Iowa. Lowell was then drafted into the United States Army in September of 1959. During this time Lois enjoyed their visits together while he served his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas and his second assignment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Following his basic training, Lowell was sent to Munich, Germany, where he and Lois were reunited and remained there for the duration of his military service. Following his discharge they returned to the farm near Prairie City where they lived and farmed until moving into Pella, Iowa in 1971. Lois was Lowell’s right hand. She was responsible for his and their success in farming. Lois always loved the outdoors, gardening and especially walks in the timber, looking for deer sheds or gathering colorful leaves. She enjoyed these walks by herself, as she used this as a time of reflection.

Lois had a very strong faith which was evident during her entire life. She enjoyed playing the organ, her church and Bible study. She appreciated the times spent with her family and the visits with her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Lois’s talents were evident in her paintings and the quilts and wall hangings that she made. The highlights of each Christmas for her two sons and their families, were the hand-made items and tree ornaments they received as gifts. On December 12, 2015, she passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella at the age of 77 years. For Lois, her life’s work is done and her family will experience their first Christmas without her special gifts. Lois is spending Christmas in Heaven and our hope is that someday we, too, will spend Christmas together in Heaven.

Lois is awaiting a place in Heaven for her loving husband, Lowell Vande Lune; her two sons: Mark Alan Vande Lune and his wife, Kristi, of Mason City, Iowa, Kevin Lee Vande Lune and his wife, Brenda, of Chariton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Chelsea and Don Martin of Pleasantville, Iowa, Tasia Van Wyk of Knoxville, Iowa, Richard Vande Lune and Nikki Vande Lune both of Chariton, Iowa; three great-grandchildren: Simon Martin, Seth Martin and Tyeson Van Wyk; three sisters and their husbands and her brother and his wife: Linda and Loren Vande Lune of Pella, Marvin and Loretta Struik of Agra, Kansas, Carol and Ben Van Zee of Ankeny, Iowa, Phyllis and Dave Vander Pol of Pella.

Her family members who welcomed her into Heaven were her parents, Hubert and Hendrika Struik; her sister, Helen and her husband, Maurice Groenendyk; and her parents-in-law, Richard and Lois Vroom Vande Lune.
