DR. C.J. SPARKS,
LONGTIME SULLY
RESIDENT, DIES

SULLY (Special) - Dr. Clifford J. Sparks, 71, a veterinarian in Sully for almost half a century, died at 6 p.m. Friday at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa.

Sparks had been in failing health for several years.

Funeral services have not been arranged pending word from a daughter in California.

Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon will have charge of arrangements.

Sparks is survived by three sons, Dr. Wendell Sparks of Sully, Max Sparks of Sully and Sammy Sparks of Des Moines; and two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Freda) Fleener of Ottumwa and Mrs. Jack (Nadine) Pierce of San Diego, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Carrie Burlingame, of Des Moines.

Sparks was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sarah Maude Holmes, and his parents. Mrs. Sparks died six years ago.

The son of Samuel and Cordelia Butram Sparks, Dr. Sparks was born Oct. 5, 1885 near Sully.

SERVICES TODAY
FOR DR. SPARKS

SULLY (Special) - Funeral services for Dr. Clifford J. Sparks, 71, a veterinarian in Sully for almost 50 years, were held today at the home.

The Rev. Harold Ellsworth, pastor of the Sully Community church, conducted the services.

Burial was in Lynnville cemetery.

Homer McDowell, the soloist, sang "The Lord's Prayer."

Pallbearers were Raymond Mitchell, Frank Mitchell, E.B. Renaud, Charles Renaud, L.H. Stanley and Herman Kooistra.

Mrs. Howard Vanness, Mrs. E.B. Renaud, Mrs. Dick Heemsbergen and Mrs. Edna Vande Krol were in charge of flowers.

A graduate of Lynnville high school, Dr. Sparks attended Chicago College of Veterinary Medicine from which he was graduated in 1908.
